HEART

The pedestrian and bicycle-friendly park/trail is to be planned as a 30-acre, mature, wooded borough-owned property bordering the southern edge of East Berlin Borough. The purpose of the park is to provide the community with passive recreation, environmental education opportunities, and a year-round health and fitness amenity for not only the residents of East Berlin but also the neighboring townships and boroughs.

Phase 1

The pedestrian and bicycle friendly trail is slated to run from the town of East Berlin to Berlin Junction, a stop on the historic Western Maryland Railroad located just southeast of New Oxford. Phase One of the trail will be integrated into the planned Kuhn’s Woods public park in East Berlin.

Phase 2

A second phase is planned to continue south from East Berlin to Pine Run Road. This is the first such project in the eastern Adams region of the county.

HEART was formed in 2019 to advocate for rail trail design, development, and construction.
